La Toma-fucking-tina

When Farhan Akhtar introduced 'La Tomatina' to the average Indian movie-going crowd, some of who, after watching the movie, even thought of replacing their soaps with tomato, he may not have foreseen its impact on them. It took a social activist all her willpower, time and contacts, to establish the atrocious nature of this event that is going to be organized in Bangalore on the 18th of September through Facebook. She knows that people will be checking FB even while they are taking a dump or attending to their sick mother!

In a country, where thousands of people die of hunger every day, where people scrounge for leftovers from dustbins outside hotels, where the number of beggars are increasing everyday, where some people work 15-20 hours to bring home a square meal a day, throwing food at each other laughing and dancing over some lousy music is blasphemous. While I am not against having fun, throwing food which some people cannot even afford seems like a mockery of hunger and food itself. We Indians are brought up learning to respect food and not to waste it in any manner. There may be some who even say that the proceeds from this event will go to the farmers, blah blah blah. Balls to them! This is India and we know that the money thus collected is directly going to the already-fat pockets and bellies of the organizers. Now that the A. Hazare episode is over and the amazing memory power of our 'janta' have erased the good ol man from its database, the media could think of propogating the blasphemy involved in this event and how NO ONE and I repeat, NO ONE, is going to benefit from it in any way. Yes, call me a communist, call me a spoilsport, I will not care for I know what I am saying is right!!!
